“ While this restaurant might seem like just a lovely neighborhood Trattoria, which it is, it also serves up food that I really enjoyed. Going in with almost no expectations helps - but having food that lives up to/exceeds expectations is always a plus! I made a reservation on a Sunday evening and although you don't really have to, it doesn't hurt since the restaurant was pretty full - and had several seatings over the course of my meal. It can be painful looking for parking close by but if you don't mind the walk, the MRT station is pretty close too. We shared 2 starters: the cold cuts platter and the baby portobello mushrooms. The mushrooms were alright, nothing to write home about. The cold cuts platter was substantial, came with yummy bread and was overall awesome for sharing with some glasses of wine ;) I ordered the crab pasta for myself while my companions shared 2 pizzas: one was the Sicilian boat and the other a regular pizza. The Sicilian boat pizza was something I'd never seen before and enjoyed! I did love my pasta though, I didn't want to share it... And it's a little hard to because it wasn't an enormous portion. Still, I thought all the flavors came together very nicely and I never say no to fresh pasta. Service was friendly and I have zero complaints. I'd come back if I'm ever in the mood for some good ol' pasta. ”

“ This is our favourite go-to Italian restaurant in any day, when we feel like having a pasta and casual meal. we have been here for more than 5 years at least, I always like the good food and the good services. The chef and owner Roberto is a very friendly guy, occasionally he will chat with the guests and seek out feedback or comments. There is one time we said the pharma ham is less fresh, he actually changed the supplier and used only premium ham since when we visited again. All and all if you like to go for a nice meal in a comfortable environment, this is recommended place. ”

“ Acqua e Farina is on the same spot as Galbiati Gourmet Deli used to be. One of the owners is Roberto Galbiati. It's no longer a gourmet deli but a casual restaurant. Quality of food is still very good. The waitress took a wrong order for the salad and they were really apologetic. As a gesture of apology, an Italian guy gave us 2 shot glasses of rather strong liquor. That was very nice. He didn't have to. Garden salad Special - very thin slices of turkey breast meat with a sauce all over it - very very nice, sauce wasn't heavy. Thin crust pizza with Parma ham and mushrooms - very good Penne arabbiata - good Dessert platter - to share - lava chocolate cake, tiramisu, creme brulee and panacotta with raspberry sauce on it. They have brunch on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays only. ”

“ If I lived in Italy, I imagine my days would be filled with simple, fresh pastas, good balsamic vinegar, a copious selection of wines for cheap and hunky men on Vespas dressed in Zegna. That is a terrible imaginary scene for such a beautiful country but you get my drift. Galbiati is, in my opinion, that neighborhood deli where you'd go for a cuppa, that reliable and delicious pizza/pasta and chow it down with a good glass of wine. This isn't a place where the chef is looking to dazzle you with fancy plating, small portions and the accompanying high prices. No sireee. What you can count on are fresh, classic Italian dishes done excellently and at a very affordable price point. The fact that I live a short drive away just makes this place such a keeper! I treated my family to dinner last Sunday and had a table of 8. We ordered soups, the antipasti misto, salads, calamari, risotto, pastas and lamb shank. The standouts for us were the calamari (fried crisp, not oily, accompanied with a good tomato dip), my squid ink fettucine with fresh crab meat (oh lawwwdeee the pasta was cooked perfectly, the crab meat chunks were real off the claw stuff, not canned...and the sauce!!), and the literally, fall-off-the-bone tender lanb shank. Guys, you want to know what a good braised lamb shank should taste like? Come here. I thought the appetizers were par for the course as were the salads, and although the risotto is supposed to be the chef's specialty, I thought it could've been a little smoother and we felt quite carbed out finishing the plate. The wine selection is obviously skewed towards Italy and I thought our pick was fine, though nothing mind blowing like a Guildalberto you could buy at a similar price point off wholesale. Not much character to it and mild enough to accompany the variety of dishes on our table. Desserts were well-liked all round and we had practically everything on the menu. I must mention that the service was great throughout our meal. Our waiter kept checking on us and ensured our glasses were filled. Each course was served to everyone at almost the same time (not an easy feat with a full house) and one of the waiters helped to carry my grandma's wheelchair when we were getting her to the car. In all, a great meal and we'll be back, definitely to try brunch. There are easily a dozen restaurants down Bukit Timah but besides Pepp, most are skewed towards high end "casual" or fine dining and that means a once or twice a year visit . Places like Galbiati fill a good niche where one gets affordable, high quality Italian that's convenient and friendly. Now all we need are those Vespas... ”

“ This is a great little neighborhood restaurant. The owner and staff are friendly and the dishes are simple which is the right way for Italian cuisine. Top dishes is the mushroom risotto which is very flavorful and smooth. And for breakfast the Casserole. Which a Canadian would call hash but with sophistication. A mix of sausage, bacon, potato, herbs and cherry tomato. Simple and brilliant served with poached egg it's a wonderful weekend treat. The cappuccinos are excellent and although a little small they truly are the right ratio of foam and coffee. ”

“ We absolutely love this place. We go there as often as we can and have given up going anywhere else at all. The food is fresh, delicious and the attention to detail and service is a rarity here. If you have any specific dietary requirements or need to ask the chef to prepare something differently they will do so much to accommodate you. The appetizers are divine, the pasta and pizzas fresh and light, and the desserts are astonishing in their variety. They do catering and take away as well, and I have heard nothing but positive reviews. Give these guys a try - amazing!! ”

“ They neglected to serve us complimentary bread! :( Not that I particularly wanted it, would've been too full for dessert, but still.. Anyway, bf and I split a yummy thin crust pizza. Yay for allowing us to mix two flavours in a pizza! So half of it was spicy salami and the other half was mushroom. The spicy salami was actually just salami with spicy peppers sprinkled around, and boy were they spicy.. My mouth was on fire after having bitten into one, leaving me wanting ice cream. The mushrooms were something akin to shimeji mushrooms, interestingly. Not quite what I expected, but nice and juicy. The tomato sauce had a bit of a canned taste, but I think (or hope so, anyway) that it was freshly made. Nice thin crispy crust! $16.80, pretty affordable. I just found it rather curious that the appetizers were mostly priced around $14, and the pastas were around $18-$20. Anyhow, lots of pastas on the menu, looked good and will be back to try more! $5 tiramisu dessert was also surprisingly reasonable, not a huge portion but who wants huge desserts anyway :p Pretty gd, would've liked more cake (v. cream). Interesting addition of vanilla sauce. ”

“ I haven't had a go at their main courses but I've tried their cakes and have to say that I was very impressed! I tried their tiramisu and chocolate hazelnut cakes ($5.40 each for takeaway) and they were pretty amazing. The tiramisu was similar to the authentic italian ones you get in rome, very light mascarpone with an equally light coffee soaked sponge without any alcohol (that we Singaporeans tend to be used to). The chocolate hazelnut cakes were brilliant! Smooth and velvety with a rich and nutty chocolate flavour, it is heaven in every bite. For $5.40 per cake, I would say that it is absolutely value for money. I would definitely go back again for desserts. I will give their main courses a shot the next time too, as they smelt wonderful when I was there, buying my cakes. ”
